Little Rock Zoo Trip

By Shelby Joiner October 9, 2021

The Little Rock Zoo has been in Arkansas for as long as I can remember. It has been a staple in Little Rock. People travel all across the state to visit our Zoo in Little Rock.  My first memory at The Little Rock Zoo is from my early childhood. We only visited the zoo on school and church field trips. I always enjoyed watching the animals in their natural habitat. I personally LOVE giraffes. They are sweet, caring, and so beautiful.

McKenzie & I visited the LR Zoo for her first time on Saturday, October 9th. We met up with my in-laws, her cousins, and aunt. It was a beautiful day. Of course, it was hot in October (yay Arkansas weather). The whole place was lit up with Halloween decorations. They are also installing new light lanterns that are shaped like animals. They are BEAUTIFUL!

McKenzie is only 9 months old so her interaction was not as much as her cousins (5 & 9). They enjoyed the animals: about it, naming them, and taking pictures! I enjoyed walking around and being outside. McKenzie needs to be more social so this was the perfect outing to do that!

My favorite exhibit was the apes. A family of 3 apes came out and started swinging on the bridges, climbing posts, and talking to the people. They were beautiful creatures and full of life. You could see the sincerity in their eyes as they were helping the babe ape climb.

Their event list this October is full of fun stuff for the kids. Each Saturday is a Halloween party! They also have great interactive activities: the playgrounds, feeding stations, and petting zoo.

Now for the fun adult details: you must reserve your time online to visit. They have signs posted that masks are required when inside buildings, but I did not see anyone enforcing it. Also, their memberships are SO AFFORDABLE. I jumped on the deal for me and Kenzie. I chose the option to take another adult with us for free.

So, that was the sum of our trip. I 10/10 recommend it for a fun outing with the family. We will be doing it much more often. Visit the LR Zoo online at: www.littlerockzoo.com
