The Claw Machine Stroller Costume

By Shelby Joiner October 25, 2021

I absolutely LOVE a great challenge. With my busy schedule and juggling Kenzie, I don’t get to utilize my creative side as much as I would like. I saw an Instagram contest to win a BOB stroller and HAD to jump in on this. I would absolutely love to win a BOB stroller. It would seriously take our stroller stride game to the next level.

So, I dove into my art supply closet, looked at Pinterested for inspiration, and got to work. I had 1 hour before Kenzie needed to eat and lost interest in her play pen. I wanted to do a stroller costume that showed my personality, but also highlighted how adorable Kenzie is. I chose The Claw Machine. We all have played a claw machine - as an adult or kid! Honestly, I do not think I ever won anything from one of those machines, but they were always so much fun.

My goal was to create a claw machine that had stuffed animals in it around Kenzie sitting in the stroller. I had the perfect size box that fit my smaller stroller. I am going to just list the steps for you to follow. It took me 1 hour from start to finish. I also will link a pinterest board I created with other cute stroller costume ideas.

My process:

  • find box big enough for stroller
  • Cut a life size hole out of the front
  • Cut all flaps but 1
  • Apply vinyl (or you can paint) to all three sides
  • Use 1 flap to adhere to top of the front with the name of the machine
  • Decorate the inside to cover the brown. I used filler paper- you could paint or even add lights for night time
  • Create a “claw”. I used popsicle sticks and vinyl to adhere to the top. I used 2 per claw hand and put them at an angle to create that look of opening and closing.
  • The “stick” to move the claw was a simple gatorade cap. I could not find anything that stood upright.
  • Lastly, i placed it over the stroller and added the stuffed animals around her for the photo.

She was not having this fun project, so you get to see her wonderful personality! LOL! This project was super fun and I loved using the creativity. Now, I am linking the pinterest board and the stroller costume contest from Instagram!
