First of all, I would love to make the word “harvestfest” official. I think Hillcrest Harvestfest is a unique and catchy name. With a background in marketing, it is genius. It stood out amongst the other events this weekend online. This event was held on October 30, 2021. It was located on Kavanaugh. The entire street in Hillcrest District was blocked. I always like to cover the COVID protocol. Originally, all attendees were required to show their vaccination card. A few days before the event, they changed this to just vendors & workers. They had the option to show a vaccination card or a negative COVID test from the past 3 days. They stated this change was made due to the decrease in positive cases.
This was our first year to experience Hillcrest Harvestfest. The day was scheduled out for literally EVERYBODY. The kids enjoyed the day stage with family friendly music. The booths were filled with nonprofits and artsy people. I enjoyed walking around and meeting the vendors. I think there were the same number of dogs as kids walking around. Then, I realized there was a DOG SHOW scheduled. How fun!! The night ended with live music on a bog stage at the end of Kavanaugh.
We walked about 1 mile from our car to the event lured in by the smells from food trucks. They had a great variety: bbq, ice cream, sandwiches, and more! The food truck lines were always full and people enjoyed a nice place to sit and eat (we all know they people-watched mostly).
The coffee shops and boutiques were also open. The beer and wine gardens were full and La Terreza was selling cocktails on the street! YUM! If you missed it this year, I would recommend that you make a note to go next year. It was great to get out and enjoy the beautiful day with my family!
