Our summer programs are available for virtually all school-age children and youth:
LOWER CAMP is for children who have completed Kindergarten-5th grade (or rising 1st-6th graders). In addition to weekly theme-related programming, Lower Camp always includes a wide variety of activities: daily swimming when weather permits, crafts, various games and sports, boating, fishing, the “adventure zone” (slack lines, zip lines, climbing, and balance skills), and more. Campers in the later grades of this group may also participate in some of the target sports like slingshot range and archery.
UPPER CAMP is for youth who have completed 6th-8th grade (or rising 7th-9th graders). Upper campers take part in our core activities, including daily swimming when weather allows, sports, crafts, nature appreciation like hikes and more, big group games, boating, fishing, etc. The increased weekly tuition for upper camp goes toward the specialized activities for upper camp (SUPs, hammocks, tomahawk throwing), and age-specific programming (competitions, group games, and more). In addition, upper campers will go on field trips each week. These may include activities like creative scavenger hunts, and/or visits to an amusement or activity centers such as a trampoline park.
In the event of inclement weather, we will have alternate activities planned for indoor and covered areas.
Young people 16 or older may apply to join our staff of certified lifeguards as camp staff and for our other group events. If someone is interested in becoming a lifeguard, we can help coordinate a course and exam. Lake Nixon will pay the certification course/exam fee for any lifeguards who join and stay on our staff.
